Amazon Web Services (AWS) has a new head of global channel and alliances as long-serving chief Terry Wise takes on a new role.

Wise is understood to have been named AWS vice president of worldwide partners and US Western region sales  as Doug (Dong Hoon) Yeum steps into his former role, according to CRN US.

Yeum has been with the world’s biggest cloud provider since 2014 when he first joined as general manager for Korea. He then moved to to Seattle take on his current role as CEO Andy Jassy’s technical advisor Seattle in December 2017.

Before joining AWS, Yeum spent six and a half years with Google, where he held a variety of roles, his final being as managing director for Google Korea.

According to LinkedIn, Yem’s tenure at Google saw him lead the business with a focus on YouTube and mobile, which led to Korea becoming the fastest growing market for Google in Asia Pacific.

He has previously led South Korean IT consultancy firm Xfiniti, and held roles at investment bank BNP Paribas and management consultancy A.T. Kearney.

AWS was contacted for comment regarding the changeover.

Meanwhile, Wise became head of global alliances and channel in 2008 and is said to have spent the 15 years previously working at a number of start-ups. He is credited with growing AWS’ partner network to a global ecosystem of resellers, managed service providers (MSPs) and independent software vendors (ISVs).

Last year, AWS’ channel leadership in Australia and New Zealand also changed hands with Corrie Briscoe stepping into the shoes previously held by Stefan Jansen

Last month, the cloud provider struck a new Whole-of-Government services deal, giving all agencies access to AWS services on a pay-as-you-use model.
