Unified communications provider 8x8 has launched a new regional support centre in Sydney.

Open during Australian business hours, spanning both East Coast and WA, the centre will offer engineer support for A/NZ partners and customers using its cloud, contact centre automation and unified communications products.

According to the US-headquartered firm, the centre will cover pre-sales, implementation and ongoing technical support. 

8x8’s Asia Pacific VP Brendan Maree said the new base would provide a more “convenient” point of call for its A/NZ channel community.

“At the same time, it will enable us to foster stronger, more dynamic and mutually beneficial relationships with our customer and partner ecosystem,” he added. 

The provider added that the centre would complement its existing regional support centres in Asia Pacific, offering a “follow the sun” model. The opening comes four months after 8x8 launched a new office in Sydney. 

With four data centres in Asia Pacific -- Sydney, Hong Kong, Singapore and Mumbai -- Maree said the company is committed to providing the "best service possible" to its A/NZ customers.

The launch follows the recent appointment of Michelle Marlan as senior manager for channel and alliances. She replaced former Oracle executive Steve Shaw, who departed the company after five months.

Maree joined 8x8 in 2017 as part of a bid to boost its presence in A/NZ. Last year, Maree upped the company's efforts recruit more channel partners

At the time, 8x8 only provided global support from centres in San Jose, the US, and Cluj, in Romania.
