Internal Affairs outlines its digital work plan for 2020

DIA's has a significant program of work in 2020 beyond establishing its digital procurement marketplace

Government's lead digital agency outlines its workplan for 2020.

Government's lead digital agency outlines its workplan for 2020.

The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) has outlined its digital workplan and priorities for the 2020 financial year, including a focus on local government, payroll and its new marketplace.

In estimates and appropriations documents prepared for the Budget, DIA said it will begin work to modernise the local authority electoral system and put in place a "more enduring platform" for voting in local elections, including the application of new technologies.

DIA said it would partner with local authorities to undertake this work. It is also planning to invest in local government transformation.

"This initiative sought to contribute to local government reform by incentivising councils to develop shared approaches to information and communications technology development," it said.

The department is continuing its work to establish the new Marketplace and in addition to the systems integration and managed services categories that expected to emerge in the next few weeks, it will add content management services and digital experience platforms.

The existing enterprise content management-as-a-service panel will expire during 2020

DIA also said it would shift several legacy ICT services into more modern services, such as One.Govt services into the telecommunications as a service category.

The Common Web Platform, currently provided by Silverstripe on Revera infrastructure, also expires in 2020 will also be replaced.

With many agencies still struggling to remediate historic payroll errors, DIA will be looking to achieve a consistent approach for agency remediation, reduced cost and risk through cutting the number of bespoke payroll system implementations, and future-proofing such systems ahead of further changes to the law.
