Chorus is developing facilities within its exchanges to offer "network edge" data centre services, a presentation posted to the NZX on Monday has revealed.

One exchange site is live and two more are under development to go live soon.

The company has also inked a partnership starting next month with data centre management specialist Nlyte to manage its infrastructure.

Chorus stakeholder and communications manager Steve Pettigrew told Reseller News the company is "effectively entering the data centre business".

The service offers pre-built, self-contained, enterprise grade rack space for retail service providers or others looking to host cloud or enterprise services.

Chorus has been active with its "Premium Co-location Service" since its first location in Mt Eden went live in 2017, Pettigrew said.

"The logic is that we can take advantage of having 600 or so secure exchange locations at the edge of the network with good security and proactive monitoring services," he said. "The exchange locations are also good points of interconnect with regional transport and direct fibre."

One of the builds, at Avonhead in Christchurch, is due to be completed early next week.

"This will be our second site in addition to Mt Eden in Auckland with the third location in Wellington due to be completed by the end of April," Pettigrew said.

A video posted to Chorus's website explains the advantages of hosting cloud services at an exchange, including proximity to customers, security and , of course connectivity, including dark fibre connectivity.

Malwarebytes shoots the breeze with channel, prospects

A Kumeu, Auckland, winery was the venue for a Malwarebytes event for partner and prospect MSPs - with some straight shooting on the side. The half-day getaway, which featured an archery competition, lunch and wine-tasting aimed at bringing Malwarebytes' local New Zealand and top and prospective MSP partners together to celebrate recent local successes, and discuss the current state of malware in New Zealand. This was also a unique opportunity for local MSPs to learn about how they can get the most out of Malwarebytes' MSP program and offering, as more Kiwi businesses are targeted by malware.
