Australian listed company Hills has appointed Michael Collins as general manager in New Zealand.

Collins brings 20 years of security industry experience to the position, having held senior management roles with Gallagher Security, including vice president sales and marketing of the Americas and regional sales manager of New Zealand and Pacific.

Before that, Collins was employed as regional sales manager with UTC Fire and Security in New Zealand.

The Australian company best known for the Hills Hoist clothes line, has also reinvented itself as a significant IT and communications distributor offering an array of switches, routers, servers and security products and services.

Based in Auckland, Collins is tasked with improving customer engagement, driving value for vendors and cultivating a "strong sales focus" across local branches.

According to David Lenz - CEO and managing director of Hills - Collins will play an "important role" as the distributor seeks to accelerate sales growth in its security and surveillance business along with driving growth across all Kiwi divisions including health and AV.

“Michael understands the NZ market and will utilise his local knowledge and networks to develop opportunities and capitalise on infrastructure projects planned for the future," Lenz said.

“His proven leadership skills will be invaluable as we re-focus the business and drive market growth to ensure Hills remains the leading value-add building technologies distributor across A/NZ.”

Collins said he was excited to join Hills at a time when there were significant opportunities to improve the business and increase sales growth.

“I’m looking forward to working with the NZ team and developing a plan to move the business forward,” Collins added.
