Friday Solutions has rolled out Oracle Cloud for Urban Polo, a series of polo events taking place in Christchurch, Auckland and Singapore.

Implemented in under four weeks, the deployment is designed to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-powered intelligent bots, in a bid to bring the game closer to the consumer in 2019.

The technology is delivered through a digital concierge accessed from a mobile phone, which allows attendees to access event information, match schedules and player details, in addition to live photos and game rules.

“The Urban Polo series is all about getting up close and personal to the live action,” said Simon Wilson, director of Urban Polo. “Our chatbot concierge really helps in terms of providing this ‘closeness’ and a personal means of keeping in touch with our consumers and followers.

“It gives attendees all the information they want, when they want - in a way that is very familiar to them - through their phone.”

The deep learning-based natural language understanding behind the Oracle Digital Assistant means the chatbot can comprehend conversations, determine intent and respond in context.

Wilson said the bot will continue to evolve, understand questions more effectively and better respond to varying questions from attendees over time by leveraging machine learning technologies.

“What we found from last year’s event was that users were much more engaged and it really helped improve the consumer experience, for example giving them quick and easy access to the photo stream; people really get dressed up for these events,” he added.

Headquartered in Auckland, Friday Solutions is a specialist Oracle partner, working with enterprise and central government customers across New Zealand.

“It’s a delight to bring the bot back,” said Esmond Tong, vice president of cloud specialists across Asia Pacific at Oracle. “It has given us the opportunity to take some of the learnings from last year to make the experience even better.

“We’ve done more language training against the types of questions asked and also the types of slang that might get used.  We’ve also brought in other digital content including maps.

“This ability to better engage with consumers, improve processes and productivity by freeing up time, is as applicable to business as it is to these events. It’s little wonder that we are seeing broad adoption from a large range of business and industries including leisure and hospitality, healthcare, utilities, retail and more.”

The Urban Polo series commences on 23 February in Singapore, before arriving in Christchurch and Auckland on 2 and 16 March respectively.
