Lenovo Data Center Group (DCG) has promoted Nathan Knight as its new general manager for Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ).

Knight is taking on the new role from Rob Makin, who will be moving into a global post as executive director and general manager for the vendor’s worldwide device-as-a-service business unit.

According to Lenovo, Knight has a proven track record in change management, business turnaround, and delivering rapid growth in highly competitive markets, most recently heading up Lenovo DCG’s channel and SMB business for A/NZ.

“I am proud of the strong growth that Rob has achieved at the organisation over the past three years, and will strive to build on this strong foundation to grow the A/NZ DCG business," Knight said.

"As we look to build solutions with smart features to transform the user experience through intelligent transformation, we are ideally positioned to go from strength to strength."

Knight maintains more than 15 years of industry experience, including nearly five years at Lenovo and a decade more in senior roles across product management, sales and general management at Acer, Hewlett Packard, Ingram Micro and TalkingTech.

“Nathan has played a key strategic role in the rapid growth of the channel program for Lenovo DCG. His relentless energy, love of collaboration, and rigour in execution have led to a host of successes, and positioned him perfectly to drive the A/NZ DCG business forward,” Lenovo DCG Asia Pacific president Sumir Bhatia said.

Recently, Lenovo revealed it was adding an extra dimension to the highly competitive data centre market in Australia and New Zealand, driven by increased channel growth and new alliances.

Within A/NZ, the vendor has on-boarded more than 800 new customers during the past 12 months, amid an increasingly crowded marketplace.

The numbers see the addition of another heavyweight vendor to an infrastructure market already housing Dell EMC, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Cisco and Huawei, boosting customer and channel choice in the process.

“We have the ability to acquire and bring new customers on-board as businesses respond to our technology proposition. From the small to the large end of the market we’re seeing huge growth," Knight said at the time.
