Telesmart is claiming to be the first provider in New Zealand to deliver cloud calling for Microsoft Teams, using its infrastructure and rapid deployment cloud model.

The system enables external voice connectivity from within Teams' collaborative work flow environment, enhancing existing functionality.

Enabling external calling requires no investment in equipment and poses no downtime risk to client’s businesses, Telesmart said.

The launch comes three months after Kordia unveiled direct routing for Microsoft Teams in New Zealand, aimed at allowing customers to access voice and video calling through Office 365.

Furthermore, the service can be initiated within 15 minutes with existing enterprise phone numbers ported to the cloud platform ensuring customer continuity.

Geof Robinson, Telesmart’s project director said installing direct route for Microsoft Teams was the easy part of the project.

"Getting the back-end infrastructure right, making sure the 365 tenancy is set up correctly, making it supportable and adding functionality to Teams so that caller experience is great, was where the hard work on this project was done," he said.

Teams is Microsoft’s new hub for collaboration in Office 365, replacing Skype for Business, and provides integrated chat, online meetings and phone system functionality.

Telesmart’s enterprise version, Enterprise Connect Cloud Calling for Microsoft Teams, integrates Teams into an existing voice platform. This enables the easy migration of users for collaboration and external calling, while maintaining the existing enterprise voice platform for advanced and bespoke functionality.

Included SIP trunks can be used for both the existing phone platform and Microsoft Teams and deployment options include parallel deployment with an existing communications platform, or full cloud where the client can migrate existing phone numbers to Teams.

“We are very excited that Telesmart is bringing this capability to businesses throughout New Zealand, enabling them to communicate and collaborate nationally and globally, taking full advantage of our cloud based intelligent solutions now and in the future," Microsoft Office marketing group lead Mark Walton said.

In March, Telesmart bought Scollay Holdings' NEC business for an undisclosed sum.
