Defend has appointed David Duffy as managing director and partner of the Midlands region, as the cyber security start-up expands across New Zealand.

Effective 7 December, Duffy will spearhead the launch of the business across the key markets of Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Taranaki and New Plymouth.

Duffy joins the business following 13 years at Datacom, having previously held the position of director since December 2016.

“David Duffy is one the country’s most proven, trusted and respected technology leaders and he is relentless when delivering outcomes and value for customers,” said Nigel Everett, CEO of Defend, when speaking to Reseller News.

During his time at Datacom, Duffy helped expand capabilities across the Waikato regional business, through significantly growing headcount in Hamilton and Tauranga locations.

Furthermore, the industry veteran also helped set the strategy for the Datacom business globally, with a responsibility for creating the technology provider’s partnering framework.

“We know our partnership delivers value to our customers, our co-workers, the industry and most importantly our communities and we strive to deliver transformational change,” Duffy added. “Personally, I am looking forward to growing great teams in the region where I live, once more.”

According to Everett, Duffy will lead the launch of the business in the Midlands, investing in local talent while also improving the cyber security posture of regional organisations.

“We assist organisations with their cyber security investment justification and this is not all about technology,” Everett added. “We had an exceptional first year and we are refreshing to our customers.

“We approach security differently to others and we enable the executive to lead risk by empowerment versus paranoia.”

Launched in 2017, the Auckland-based start-up provides cyber security services across auditing and compliance, business consultancy, cloud, data centre and networking, in addition to application performance, secure coding and end-user protection.

Defend was recently awarded Best Start-up or New Business during the iSANZ Awards in Wellington, as reported by Reseller News.
