Suncorp New Zealand is using Nutanix technology to support its Citrix virtual desktops and create a more flexible and collaborative working environment.

The insurer, which is part of the ASX-listed Suncorp Group, has deployed Nutanix Enterprise Cloud OS software infrastructure to deliver 700 virtual desktops, enabling staff to work remotely in any space.

In response to the growing demand for flexible working options by existing and potential staff, Suncorp renovated its Auckland offices to transform its way of working.

“One of the top questions asked by our potential employees is – do you offer flexible working options?” said Terry Gaze, executive general manager for technology, data and labs at Suncorp.

“We’re meeting this desire with an easy-to-use IT environment and offices that encourage staff to work in a collaborative way from anywhere.

"We’re now looking at how else we can use the Nutanix operating system to further support our flexible working strategy."

The Childcare in New Zealand Survey, released by Stats New Zealand this year, highlights flexible employers and technology as key elements to helping parents manage their care arrangements alongside work commitments.

Supported by Suncorp’s IT partner Deptive, the new IT environment also improved desktop resilience and availability across Suncorp’s end user environment and improved employee productivity.

An early adopter of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Suncorp uses the public cloud to manage many core applications and services.

However, the company chose to host its VDI services on-premises as it requires more control over data and security and needed to minimise the risk of downtime.

“Deptive was instrumental in the success of Suncorp New Zealand’s deployment,” said Jacob Pereira, channel director of Asia at Nutanix. “The Citrix specialist has worked closely with Suncorp for many years and knows its IT environment inside out.

"This helped pave the way for a simple and successful joint effort that is helping Suncorp deliver the flexible working environment it needs."

Suncorp New Zealand is a group of related or associated companies consisting of Vero Insurance New Zealand, Vero Liability Insurance, Asteron Life, AA Insurance and AA Life Services.

Malwarebytes shoots the breeze with channel, prospects

A Kumeu, Auckland, winery was the venue for a Malwarebytes event for partner and prospect MSPs - with some straight shooting on the side. The half-day getaway, which featured an archery competition, lunch and wine-tasting aimed at bringing Malwarebytes' local New Zealand and top and prospective MSP partners together to celebrate recent local successes, and discuss the current state of malware in New Zealand. This was also a unique opportunity for local MSPs to learn about how they can get the most out of Malwarebytes' MSP program and offering, as more Kiwi businesses are targeted by malware.
