Huawei has bolstered channel capabilities across Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) through the appointment of Geoff Wright as the vendor’s new partner chief.

Under the banner of vice president of channel and commercial, ARN understands that Wright has joined the tech giant’s enterprise division, in a move effective immediately.

ARN can confirm that the new-look channel hire comes a month after Wright vacated his role as director of channels across A/NZ at Dell EMC, to “pursue other opportunities” outside of the vendor.

Going forward, Wright will be tasked with building out the vendor’s ecosystem of partners locally, which spans value-added resellers, system integrators and service providers.

“Huawei Enterprise’s aim is to ultimately sell 100 per cent via our channel partners,” said Colin Hu, enterprise managing director at Huawei Australia. “Our channel is critical to support our substantial business growth targets of more than 50 per cent year-on-year for 2019/20.”

From a channel standpoint, Hu said developing a “core group of accredited and capable partners” is a key priority for the vendor, with a strong emphasis on “quality of partnerships, not quantity.”

“Hence, building trust and expertise is front of mind – alongside pipeline development of course,” Hu added.

“We will be aiming to expand our channel ecosystem with more solution and service partners as well as enabling more engineers to be trained through our training programs especially in our key verticals including transport, energy, education and ISPs with our partners.”

Prior to joining Huawei, Wright was responsible for Dell EMC’s trans-Tasman channel business and the implementation of the Dell EMC Partner Program, which went into effect in February 2017.

Wright joined Dell in 2015, leveraging nearly 30 years of strategic channel experience having worked across APAC, EMEA and the UK at a number of high-tech companies, including Miller Heiman Group’s Channel Enablers and Microsoft.

Following Wright's departure, Shant Soghomonian - director of channel strategy for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) at Dell EMC - was appointed as the interim channel general manager.

Specifically, Soghomonian is responsible for the vendor's partner program and sales of solutions in collaboration with partners including distributors, solution providers and system integrators.

Soghomonian has held numerous channel leadership positions in the Dell EMC business during his 10 year tenure, having previously worked for VMware, Symantec, Veritas and Ingram Micro.
