The internet-connected fridge is no longer a joke after a deal between Kiwi refrigeration specialist Skope Industries and IoT developer Wellington Drive Technologies.

Skope has chosen Wellington’s IoT and motor products as key components in its ActiveCore glass door display refrigerator range.

Skope’s energy efficient commercial ActiveCore 2 fridge, launched at the recent Fine Food Australia show in Melbourne, will be the first fridge from Skope to incorporate IoT capability via its new Skope-connect app.

“The relationship with Skope is Wellington’s first direct technology partnership with a refrigeration manufacturer and it signals a new channel for the business to deliver its IoT solution to a wider food and beverage market," Wellington Drive CEO Greg Allen said.

"Delivering actionable insights through data is what this partnership is all about."

With Skope-connect, a customer receives sales activity updates and insights into fridge performance – such as energy consumption and maintenance requirements.

Users can also customise their fridge to set temperatures for different projects, use a low-noise mode, set venue opening hours to control light, and more.

“Skope searched for a partner that could help to develop IoT technology to make Skope-connect a reality," Skope operations manager Bruce Vine said.

“We see the launch of Skope-connect as a vital new development, as our products move beyond keeping products cold, by delivering real information that helps our customers manage and grow their businesses."

In its recent 2018 first half result, Wellington Drive reported 18 per cent growth in revenue.
