SAP has appointed Damien Bueno as president and managing director of Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ), replacing Colin Brookes who is pursuing a global role.

Bueno takes charge of a billion-dollar business spanning both sides of the Tasman, driven by strong cloud sales during the past 12 months.

The SAP stalwart joined the tech giant in 2007, working with a range of A/NZ organisations across multiple sectors in the process.

Most recently, Bueno was vice president of strategic industries and markets locally, where he spearheaded a co-investment model with the Australian Government centred around digital engagement.

“Australia and New Zealand is a key market unit for the APJ region, having become a $1 billion business and delivering 22 per cent year over year cloud business growth,” said Scott Russell, president of Asia Pacific and Japan at SAP.

“As an experienced member of the A/NZ senior executive team, Damien is a proven leader who embodies what it means to be customer-centric and employee-focused.

“I look forward to Damien supporting our customers’ future successes, as our A/NZ business enters its next phase of growth.”

With his appointment, Bueno joins the Asia Pacific Japan senior executive team and reports directly to Russell.

“Our customers are asking more and more of us each day, as they deal with the opportunities and disruptions that their respective industries throw at them,” Bueno added.

“As a valued partner to help our customers succeed in today’s digital economy, it has never been a better time to be at SAP.”

Meanwhile, in assuming a global role within the vendor, Brookes exits the local business after just over a year in the top job, having assumed the position in July 2017.

“Under Colin Brooke’s leadership, first as chief operating officer and then as president and managing director, SAP A/NZ delivered a relentless industry focus across its entire business with a shift to an industry-led go-to-market strategy,” Russell added.
