Network company Chorus has rung in a bundle of changes to its executive team that will see two industry veterans leave the company.

One, Nick Woodward, general manager, products sales and marketing, is to leave the business on 27 July. Woodward has been with the company since its foundation as a part of Telecom in 2008.

Woodward has held a variety of leadership roles, most recently driving efforts to connect customers to fibre as part of the nationwide ultra-fast broadband network rollout.

“His contribution over many years has been enormous and I would like to personally thank him for everything he has done during my time as CEO," said Chorus CEO, Kate McKenzie, said.

Ed Hyde, most recently CEO of incubator Spark Ventures, is to be appointed as chief customer officer.

“As we near the conclusion of the bulk of the fibre build, and with a rapidly and dynamically changing environment, customer focus and innovation will be essential to Chorus achieving its objectives and continuing to make New Zealand better," Hyde said.

McKenzie signaled a shift towards greater customer focus in a smaller set of changes last August.

In addition, Ed Beattie, general manager of network and field management is also to leave Chorus on 10 August to be replaced by Chorus chief financial officer Andrew Carroll.

Beattie most recently led the UFB network after overseeing the rollout of fibre to the node and the rebuild of the telecommunications network in Christchurch after the earthquakes.

“Both Nick and Ed have had a massive impact on telecommunications and broadband in New Zealand, and they have been at the centre of the huge leap forward in the quality of our national infrastructure that has been seen over the last 10 years," McKenzie said.

"They leave a huge mark on New Zealand and leave Chorus with our thanks following many years of dedicated service."

Carroll will remain CFO, in addition to his new accountabilities, while a global search is undertaken for his replacement.

The new Chorus executive team will therefore be:

  • • CEO – Kate McKenzie
  • • GM network and field management – Andrew Carroll
  • • GM strategy and business operations – Vanessa Oakley
  • • Chief customer officer – Ed Hyde
  • • GM customer care – Jo Crawford (currently on maternity leave)
  • • General counsel and company secretary – Elaine Campbell
  • • Chief technology officer – Ewen Powell
  • • GM corporate relations – Ian Bonnar
  • • GM people and culture – Shaun Philp
  • • Chief financial officer – To be recruited
