Chong Looi has been appointed as chief digital officer of Aportio, joining the emerging technology start-up amid strong growth plans in New Zealand and Australia.
With more than 30 years industry experience, Looi joins the IT service management specialists from Datacom, having previously ran the technology provider’s enterprise and commercial market cloud business across the country.
Prior to Datacom, Looi was part of the local leadership team at Dimension Data, running the managed services business in New Zealand.
In the new role, Reseller News can reveal that Looi will be primarily focused on engaging Aportio’s core base of service provider customers, in a bid to improve customer experience and profitability levels across the channel.
Furthermore, Looi will also be tasked with helping shape and drive the technology roadmap of Aportio, which officially launched to the market in February 2018.

“I know he will bring huge value to our customers, and therefore to Aportio.”
As revealed by Reseller News, Aportio is a newly born start-up specialising in IT service management.
Built on Amazon Web Services, the solution is delivered on a subscription basis, targeting service providers through technologies such as digital, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
From a channel standpoint, the start-up is split up into two service offerings, spanning AVA and SEAK.
Specifically, AVA is a virtual concierge and support assistant designed to transform the service experience offered to IT users and IT support personnel.
Meanwhile, SEAK discovers the IT assets of a business, before adding information from a number of sources to enable customers to make better decisions on assets sooner.
“Unlike other approaches, AVA avoids the need for service providers to integrate, train and configure the service themselves, so significantly reduces the investment required, and drastically shortens time to deliver benefit,” Looi told Reseller News.
“Aportio’s AVA is an exciting proposition because it is already trained with domain expertise in IT Service Management processes.
"It combines ‘human’ skills like problem solving and forward thinking with natural language, machine learning and process automation. Being ‘immediately intelligent’ at day one makes it unique.”
Looking ahead, Green told Reseller News that more “top talent” will join the business within the coming weeks, as the start-up continues to evolve product offerings in the market.
