Datacom appoints new South Island leader as Peter Mahoney steps down

Industry veteran will be replaced by Sonny Taite

Peter Mahoney has vacated his role as director of South Island at Datacom, exiting the technology provider after more than 30 years.

Reseller News can confirm that the industry veteran has stepped out of the business following over three decades of services, and will be replaced by Sonny Taite.

“After 30 years with Datacom, Peter has decided to step out of the role of director of South Island,” confirmed Greg Davidson, CEO of Datacom Group, when speaking to Reseller News.

“He has been instrumental in building the South Island business into what it is today, and we thank him for all the hard work he has put in.”

Mahoney has helped build the South Island business of Datacom since 1987, overseeing operations from the provider’s Christchurch office.

With smaller branches in Nelson, Dunedin and Invercargill, the team provides expertise across software development, professional services, server management and network engineering, alongside service delivery, service desk, engineering and procurement.

“Peter has passed the business on to the next generation of leadership under Sonny Taite, who is based in Christchurch and will now lead the South Island region into its next phase of growth,” Davidson added.

“Peter’s unwavering devotion to putting the customer first, and creating unique solutions for the local market will not be forgotten, and we wish him luck for the future.”

Going forward, Taite will now oversee responsibilities for the South Island, having previously managed cyber security and networks since January 2015.

The change comes as Davidson officially takes the reins of the wider Datacom Group, having been announced as a replacement for Jonathan Ladd in November 2017.

Davidson, who is currently CEO of Datacom Systems New Zealand and Australia, joined business in 1997, first serving as general manager of Internet Services before rising through the leadership ranks.

Prior to his current role, Davidson was CEO of New Zealand operations for nine years from 2007 to 2016, when his duties were extended to include Australia.
