Government's lead ICT agency describes marketplace release as a "minimum viable product"

DIA is releasing a minimum viable product of a new public cloud marketplace for beta testing

The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) is inviting government agencies and cloud suppliers to beta test its new public cloud marketplace.

Describing the marketplace as a "vital step in the digital transformation of government ICT procurement", DIA is telling agencies and suppliers the a minimum viable product is now in place.

"We are seeking up to 30 suppliers who provide public cloud services, representing a range of organisational types and sizes, to undertake the full application and on-boarding process of the marketplace," the department said in a notice on the GETS tender website.

"These suppliers will validate the business processes and marketplace functions and advise the department on the user experience prior to the full launch of the marketplace."

DIA said the marketplace, which went to tender earlier this year, will make it easier, quicker and more cost-effective for government to access and suppliers to deliver a full range of digital capabilities.

"It simplifies procurement and security assurance processes allowing agencies to focus on value and citizen engagement."

Key benefits are increased choice, access to innovation, reduced costs and time of procurement and security for agencies and suppliers, DIA said.

"The Government ICT Strategy and Action Plan is based on big opportunities to drive digital transformation," DIA said. "Emerging technologies, such as cloud computing, is one of these opportunities.

"The marketplace represents a significant step in the digital transformation of government, making it easier, quicker and more cost-effective for agencies to access a full range of digital capabilities."

The marketplace was developed in consultation with the local ICT industry and government agencies over a six-month co-design process, DIA said. Industry representatives and government agencies were involved in testing two prototypes and are now testing the platform’s functionality.

DIA is also working closely with the procurement function at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
