Symbio Networks is adding further competition into New Zealand's telco market with the launch of its nationwide voice network.
Symbio chief commercial officer, Jon Cleaver, said the launch makes it the only fully integrated voice network interconnecting both sides of the Tasman.
“Others in the market who claim to have a trans-Tasman network have done so with a patchwork solution, using acquisitions or silo-builds operating on different platforms to bridge the gap,” he said.
“Symbio built the New Zealand network from scratch using the same platforms so the two countries can operate as one network.”
Symbio has been delivering call termination and number hosting services in New Zealand since 2008. In April 2016 it expanded that presence through the purchase of Spark’s international voice business, TNZI.
Points of presence are located in Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington and Christchurch, enabling Symbio to provide a redundant interconnection with NZ telecommunications infrastructure companies Spark New Zealand, Vodafone, 2Degrees and Chorus.
Symbio, part of ASX-listed MNF Group, said the new rollout enables Symbio to deliver its full suite of voice services backed by API integration capability to New Zealand wholesalers. This includes integrated billing, provisioning and network management - equipping new entrants to enter the market.
Call collection and termination occur in New Zealand, and are billed in New Zealand dollars making it easier to serve the local market. Existing customers can raise new international orders using the same platform.
“Wholesalers in New Zealand are not getting a good deal," Symbio Networks New Zealand business development and carrier relations manager Steven Norman said.
"Carriers are paying lip service to the wholesale market in New Zealand; features are pared down as they are focused on their retail offering,” he said.
“We believe that Symbio’s expansion in New Zealand will drive healthy wholesale competition. Our solutions are modular and scalable, bringing enhanced innovation and product choice to the New Zealand wholesale market."
Symbio will provide everything around the network, freeing up small and medium wholesalers to concentrate on building their business and supporting their customers.
Jet Interactive is one of the first customers on the recently completed network.
“It was important for us to choose a provider with a focus on wholesale, with the flexibility to accommodate our specialised requirements,” said director of Jet Interactive Justin Graham.
“Symbio Networks New Zealand has allowed Jet to export our call analytics and telecommunications services that have been so popular in Australia.”
