Cloud hosting provider Umbrellar is launching a new cloud business unit ahead of a roll-out of Microsoft Azure Stack services and Office 365.

Azure Stack is a hybrid cloud system, designed for customers needing a mix of on-premise hosting and public cloud.

Umbrellar CEO Michael Foley said the launch follows increased demand from customers seeking more cloud-based services in New Zealand.

“We heard from a lot of customers that they need a simple way to both migrate to the cloud, and then manage the vast array of cloud-based services once they’re there,” he said. “By rolling up all these services and offerings into one portal we’ll meet that demand.”

As reported by Reseller News last month, the new offering aims to deliver a consistent approach to consuming cloud services.

“A consistent Azure experience across both New Zealand-hosted Azure Stack and Azure public cloud are a key component to delivering a successful cloud strategy," Umbrellar head of cloud David Howden told Reseller News.

“Unified identity, deployment consistency and continuous innovation are all foundations of the Umbrellar hybrid platform strategy, and Azure Stack is pivotal in that strategy.”

Privately-owned Umbrellar has four data centres - three in New Zealand and one in Australia - with more than 85,000 Kiwi users.

“This change means the company can focus on offering the best of breed cloud services that New Zealand needs," Foley added.

“We’ve built our business by helping New Zealand companies grow in the internet era and now we’re going to take that to the next level.

“By providing Kiwis with the tools they need to digitally operate in the most efficient way possible, we aim to help New Zealand businesses thrive in the cloud economy."

Malwarebytes shoots the breeze with channel, prospects

A Kumeu, Auckland, winery was the venue for a Malwarebytes event for partner and prospect MSPs - with some straight shooting on the side. The half-day getaway, which featured an archery competition, lunch and wine-tasting aimed at bringing Malwarebytes' local New Zealand and top and prospective MSP partners together to celebrate recent local successes, and discuss the current state of malware in New Zealand. This was also a unique opportunity for local MSPs to learn about how they can get the most out of Malwarebytes' MSP program and offering, as more Kiwi businesses are targeted by malware.
