Near-instant age verification is now available for online Lotto players

Verifi Identity Services is now supplying age verification to the New Zealand Lotteries Commission via its Cloudcheck product.

Lotto NZ integrated Cloudcheck into the account sign-up process for its new online Instant Play games to ensure players are over the age of 18.

Players can use their driver licence or passports to prove their age quickly online, with the process using the NZ Transport Agency and NZ Passport databases to verify age.

From there, Lotto NZ receives information about the success or failure of the age verification and updates the customer's date of birth or name if they differ from their original MyLotto registration details.

“Cloudcheck is predominantly used by entities to assist them in meeting their obligations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Act 2009 by electronically verifying their customer’s details,” Verifi managing director Vincent McCartney explained.

"The successful implementation of Cloudcheck by Lotto NZ shows that it can be used by any sector that needs to verify the personal details of its customers such as education providers, online liquor stores and peer-to-peer websites.”

Verifi was founded in 2012 in Auckland by legal and financial services professionals McCartney and Tyler McNamee and interactive developers Karl von Randow and Matthew Buchanan of Cactuslab.

Lotto launched online sales channel MyLotto in 2008 and a supporting mobile site in 2012.
