Fuji Xerox NZ won a deal to supply Housing New Zealand with invoice management technology just days after it was suspended from key government supply contracts.
The company, which is under investigation by the Serious Fraud Office following a $350 million accounting scandal, will supply an invoice processing automation system to the state housing provider.
The contract was announced on the government tenders website on October 13.
Eleven days earlier, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) suspended Fuji Xerox NZ from an all-of-government printer and copier supply panel and terminated it from a similar office supplies panel.
Requests for comment from Housing New Zealand were referred to MBIE, which is managing communications around the issue.
MBIE said the requirements in the Housing NZ tender were "outside the scope of the print technology and associated services contract and therefore not covered by the conditions of the suspension."
Deputy Prime Minister and NZ First leader Winston Peters, who in opposition had been vocal about the scandal and the damage it may have done to New Zealand's international reputation, declined to comment.
In the midst of the Fuji Xerox furore, Peters called for a full enquiry into government procurement, but his coalition deal with Labour asks only for a reform of the rules to give New Zealand companies greater access as well as a review of Defence procurement.
In late September, Fuji Xerox filed proceedings against former senior executives of its New Zealand subsidiary.
