Consegna has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in New Zealand, joining forces to provide cloud technologies to Masters of Software Development students at the Wellington ICT Graduate School.

Terms of the agreement will see the born-in-the-cloud partner help software development students deliver proof-of-concept and research and development projects for the expanding ICT industry in the capital, backed up by AWS expertise.

“We didn’t want New Zealand students to be held back by the technology they have access to,” Consegna managing director John Taylor said.

“It made sense to go directly to Wellington, the tech hub of the country, and work with Victoria University of Wellington and the Wellington ICT Graduate School to help their students deliver even better outcomes for local businesses.”

The Wellington ICT Graduate School is a government initiative with the mandate to work directly with private technology companies to help deliver Masters programmes delivered through Victoria University of Wellington.

Specifically, the programmes are aimed at recent graduates or people in mid-career looking to transition into ICT.

From a Consegna standpoint, the partnership will take effect end of November, meaning students undertaking the Master of Software Development programme can start using Workspaces from December.

“Partnering with AWS allows our students to work to their full potential using a suite of tools that make what they can create virtually limitless,” Wellington ICT Graduate School acting director Susan Andersen said.

“One of the tools, Workspaces, gives every student in our Master of Software Development programme the ability to develop and run programs on the capacity of an overseas-based super-computer, even if they are using a $200 netbook here in Wellington.”

According to Andersen, the partnership with Consegna - which took home the Start-up Customer Win at the 2017 Reseller News ICT Industry Awards - and AWS is the latest WICTGS has formalised with local ICT companies.

“WICTGS works with ICT companies to promote student learning and create connections, but businesses benefit from having a resource they can use to trial or research new ideas,” Andersen added.

Andersen said current partnerships include work with fintech organisations, alongside e-commerce specialists, consultancy practices and telecommunication providers.

“We are extremely excited about our latest partnership with world-class companies such as Amazon Web Services and Consegna,” Andersen added.

“More and more businesses are migrating to the cloud, leaving traditional ‘on-premise’ technology behind.

“Allowing our students early exposure to AWS’ services means they will be more employable when they graduate as they will be familiar with this new way of working.”

The Master of Software Development programme runs July 2018 to June 2019 and applications are now open.
