Top Kiwi cloud expert swaps Microsoft for AWS

Burbidge tasked with helping Kiwi customers leverage the power of public cloud

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has appointed Jaron Burbidge as a senior account executive in New Zealand, tapping the cloud expert from industry rivals Microsoft.

In joining the market leader effective 2 October, Reseller News can reveal that Burbidge is tasked with helping Kiwi customers leverage the power of public cloud, working with the vendor’s most strategic customers across the country.

Prior to joining AWS, Burbidge managed engagements and partnerships with Microsoft’s leading Azure customers in New Zealand, alongside running a local team of cloud solution architects, account managers and partners.

During seven years at Microsoft, Burbidge also held the role of business development manager across enterprise cloud solutions, helping Kiwi organisations across mid-market, enterprise and public sector transition to the skies.

With more than 15 years of sales experience in New Zealand and Australia markets, Burbidge has also held senior business development roles at IBM and Tandberg, after starting out at Canon New Zealand, Cogent, Visual Communications and Vantage Systems.

Burbidge’s move comes as AWS continues to dominate the global infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) public could services industry, holding 44.2 per cent of the market share.

But as reported by Reseller News, the market leader may be set to face some stiff competition further down the track if the rampant revenue growth rates of its three closest rivals continue uninterrupted.

According to research findings from Gartner, Microsoft, Alibaba and Google appear to be closing in, albeit from distant starting points.

To put AWS’ market share into perspective however, all other IaaS public cloud services vendors not included in the top five accounted for 41.2 per cent of the global market share, or US$9.15 billion.

Locally speaking, Burbidge isn’t the only high-profile executive to join AWS during the past month, with Nutanix A/NZ channel director, Niall O’Gorman, also exiting for a new role at the cloud provider.

As reported by Reseller News, the move comes roughly 16 months after O’Gorman was appointed by Nutanix to run the hyper-converged infrastructure company’s channel business in the local market.
