Avaya has taken the wrappers off its new cloud-based video conferencing and collaboration service, under the banner of Avaya Equinox Meetings Online.

The subscription-based service will be exclusively available to channel partners in around 30 countries - Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) included - providing customers with unlimited use of virtual meeting rooms that support up to 50 participants.

Channel partners must be an Avaya video authorised reseller and offer demonstrations, with little or no upfront investment required to deliver the service.

Avaya A/NZ team engagement solutions lead, Jeremy Paton, said Equinox will be aimed at the small to mid market space as well as the enterprise arena.

“They don’t have to worry about procuring additional equipment, they can just sign up for it and they’ll be up running in a couple of hours,” he said.

“There’s very little overhead to start being able to collaborate internally in your organisation with the equipment that you’ve already got as well as between other organisations.

“Taking the video conferencing solution to the cloud makes it easier to consume for our customers and sell for our partners, and it still gives them the same features and functionality.”

Paton said the latest product eliminates the need to invest in new infrastructure or support video and collaboration sessions, with meetings capable of running across a variety of vendor systems from Avaya, Cisco, Polycom and Lifesize.

Furthermore, users can have full conference control and moderation as well as content sharing, including the ability to receive text chat on room systems.

Equinox Meetings Online provides clear wideband audio and video with up to 1080p HD that’s bandwidth efficient and optimised for Internet connectivity. Desktop and mobile participants connect into a cloud-based meeting through a link in an email or calendar invitation.

Last year, Avaya, announced the Equinox product, which is the next phase in its unified communications product line, bringing together all the difference UC soft clients and soft phones along with the whole meetings and collaboration experience.
