DXC Technology and VMware have expanded their long-time partnership, unveiling the new DXC Managed Cloud Services, enabled by the vendor's next-generation hybrid cloud services platforms.

The new offering, revealed during the VMworld 2017 event in the US, will see DXC technology become one of the first VMware partners to provide VMware Cloud on AWS offerings, also announced on 28 August, with associated managed services.

It is aimed at giving DXC Technology clients the ability to accelerate their journey to hybrid cloud while claiming an operationally consistent, resilient, secure and cost-effective hybrid cloud environment based on VMware Cloud on AWS.

"By combining VMware's hybrid cloud offerings with DXC cloud services and industry expertise," DXC Technology executive vice president, Stephen Hilton, said.

“DXC's Hybrid Cloud Service is a true accelerator for enterprises wanting to modernise and optimise existing infrastructures in a flexible consumption model, while embracing the open services of the public cloud.”

At the same time, Fujitsu and VMware have also expanded their global cloud relationship, with the Japanese tech giant partnering to deliver VMware cloud solutions as-a-service on the Fujitsu Cloud Service.

Fujitsu is scheduled to commence worldwide rollout in the fourth quarter of its fiscal 2017 (January - March 2018), with both companies also planning to expand solutions coverage to VMware Cloud Foundation.

"Customers will be able to migrate their on-premises VMware environment to cloud services quickly with minimal risk, while reducing costs,” Fujitsu head of digital business, Masahiro Ota, added.

“I believe that customers can add value to their business by converting cloud applications into native cloud services as necessary, or making them more sophisticated by combining them with other cloud services.

“This partnership expansion is extremely meaningful, as it was essential to incorporate VMware technology into K5 in order to help mutual customers achieve digital transformation,” he said.

Vendor partnerships

Meanwhile, VMware and HP have announced a partnership that will add VMware Workspace ONE to HP's device-as-a-service (DaaS) technology platform.

Workspace ONE is an integrated platform powered by VMware AirWatch Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) technology - it provides companies with an holistic approach to managing all endpoints in an organisation.

"VMware Workspace ONE powered by AirWatch provides next-generation unified endpoint management that enables our customers to manage the complete lifecycle of the end points and applications over-the-air and in real-time," VMware end-user computing senior vice president and general manager, Sumit Dhawan, said.

"This partnership brings two industry-leading players together to deliver a complete solution for mutual customers looking to transform their end points from procurement to management into a predictable consumption-based service."

VMware has also used its VMworld 2017 event to announce a new partnership with Dell EMC for VMware Cloud on AWS, which will bring Dell EMC data protection to VMware Cloud on AWS.

The new arrangement will see Dell EMC offer customers of VMware Cloud on AWS integrated data protection capabilities with Dell EMC's Data Domain and Data Protection Suite for Applications solutions, providing backup and recovery solutions for workloads running in VMware Cloud on AWS.

VMware Cloud on AWS customers will also have the option to easily add Dell EMC data protection.

“As a verified industry leader in data protection, Dell EMC was a strong choice for our first data protection solution supporting VMware Cloud on AWS," VMware products and cloud services COO, Rajiv Ramaswami, said.

"The native integration across the VMware portfolio offers transparency and ease of use for our customers, especially those moving toward the software-defined data center. This is an exciting first step in partner support for VMware Cloud for AWS."

The new partnership arrangements come as VMware reveals its new solution for securing applications running on virtualised or cloud environments.

The new security solution, VMware AppDefense, leverages virtual infrastructure to monitor running applications against their intended state, and can detect and automate response to attacks that attempt to manipulate those applications.

Additionally, integrations with third-party solutions will enable a partner ecosystem to leverage VMware's AppDefense unique application visibility and response orchestration.
