Foreign Affairs kicks off ICT planning for APEC 2021

As host, New Zealand is expected to offer an array of ICT services for delegates and media.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade is seeking ICT suppliers interested in supporting the massive APEC conference in 2021.

APEC - known as Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation - is the largest gathering of trading economies, leaders and media in the region.

The Ministry is responsible for implementing a technology solution which meets specifications outlined by the APEC Secretariat.

It has begun seeking registrations of interest (ROI) for the supply of an online registration and accreditation solution, access control technology to provide secure point of entry access to APEC venues, a host economy website and event management software to support the APEC21 Operations Team in running the event.

APEC typically attracts up to 22,000 people throughout the hosting year, including regional leaders and business leaders, ministers, senior officials, youth and media from 21 economies attending around 30 APEC events.

This will culminate in the arrival of 20 regional leaders for the APEC Leaders’ Summit, hosted by the Prime Minister of New Zealand.

"The registration and accreditation system will give APEC participants an immediate impression of the quality, substance and experience of APEC in New Zealand," the Ministry said in its ROI document.

"Due to the nature of the meetings and the profile of people attending, a high level of security is expected and required."

Because APEC 2021 is several years away the Ministry also wants to understand the solution roadmap.

Specific information is required on the level of investment that will continue to be made in the solution, potential functionality that could be included and any risks regarding major upgrades and changes that the Ministry should be aware of.

Potential reuse of the solution for other events is also to be explored and the Ministry is also open to current All-of-Government Common Capability services being used as part of any proposal.

Registrations of interest close on 1 September.
