New Zealand health and safety software start-up Blerter is eyeing the US market with three senior appointments, including channel expert and former Nokia executive Andrew Button.

Button has a long history with multi-nationals in New Zealand, the U.S., Canada as well as in Asia. He has developed sales channels for service providers, led enterprise sales teams, contract negotiations and the delivery of complex, multi-million dollar projects.

In addition to Button, IT sales expert Eugene de Bruyn will boost Auckland-based Blerter's sales capacity while Karen Hormann, formerly of Results.com and Tomorrow, joins as chief financial officer.

Blerter has developed a real-time health and safety collaboration platform. The technology, including a mobile app and back end cloud systems, enables alerts, hazard registration, the monitoring of worker qualifications, reporting and incident tracking in complex environments.

Blerter says this empowers the workforce to take the initiative in health and safety while giving health and safety managers improved communications and a simple way to capture and monitor health and safety activities.

De Bruyn said technology like Blerter's can have a huge impact on businesses globally.

“Mobile technology is enabling the health and safety industry to drive engagement throughout the entire organisation and develop a true safety culture," he said.

Founder and CEO Richard Gill said Blerter aims to make health and safety a business driver rather than a business risk.

"Blerter is the next generation communication and collaboration platform that will tip health and safety on its head," he said. "But to be able to take our solution to the right customers we needed the right team – which we now have.”

Blerter now has 25 employees, including three in the US. It recently relocated to a larger office in Newmarket.

Malwarebytes shoots the breeze with channel, prospects

A Kumeu, Auckland, winery was the venue for a Malwarebytes event for partner and prospect MSPs - with some straight shooting on the side. The half-day getaway, which featured an archery competition, lunch and wine-tasting aimed at bringing Malwarebytes' local New Zealand and top and prospective MSP partners together to celebrate recent local successes, and discuss the current state of malware in New Zealand. This was also a unique opportunity for local MSPs to learn about how they can get the most out of Malwarebytes' MSP program and offering, as more Kiwi businesses are targeted by malware.
