Dimension Data has cut multiple roles in Auckland and Wellington, following plans to move parts of the company’s Service Desk business to India.
Sources close to Reseller News can confirm that around 30 staff in New Zealand have been axed as a result of the change, with the redundancies in line with the company’s new financial year, starting October 1.
Staff have been notified, with many set to depart the company in December.
Specifically, Reseller News understands that a large chunk of the company’s Service Desk department will be moved to Pune in India as a result, over 12,000km away from New Zealand.
“Dimension Data New Zealand has been in the process of realigning its skills and capabilities to ensure it continues to meet its clients’ current needs whilst also looking to future requirements,” Dimension Data New Zealand CEO, Jo Healey, told Reseller News.
“This is consistent with all technology organisations right now - as an industry, we are having to reassess our delivery models to ensure we remain relevant.
“The digital landscape, and what our clients’ demand from technology is continuing to undergo massive disruption. We are committed to disrupt and innovate for our clients and ourselves.
“As part of this Dimension Data is looking to provide greater choice for clients with respect to Service Desk.
“A service desk function is retained here in New Zealand, as well as providing clients an option to use an offshore Dimension Data Service Desk. As an international company we have always provided clients with off-shore capabilities.”
The move comes as the ICT solutions provider prepares to move into a new office in Wellington, with plans to relocate to Lambton Quay in March 2017.
The new facility - of which Dimension Data has building naming rights - is centrally positioned at Midland Park, and is set to be introduced as Dimension Data Tower.
New office and sponsorship commitments aside however, staff reductions have been felt in Service Desk teams in both Auckland and Wellington offices, despite being billed as a key part of the company’s offerings in New Zealand.
“Our New Zealand Service Desks continue to be our largest pool of capability,” Healey added.
“We are committed to retaining our New Zealand-based service desk and do not have any plans to fully offshore or to compromise our client service experience.”
