Check Point Software Technologies has appointed Kash Sharma as its new director of distribution and SMB for Australia and New Zealand, to help drive its local channel partner business.

Sharma, who joined Check Point in 2014, is charged with engaging the pure-play security vendor’s distributors and growing its business through the company’s network of new and existing channel partners.

Sharma enters the new, Sydney-based, role after spending the past two years as sales manager, A/NZ, for the local arm of Check Point.

He has also done time as the regional sales manager for Australia and New Zealand at application networking and security provider, A10 Networks, business development manager, Cisco Services, at Express Data, and business development manager at Telstra Business.

Sharma's appointment comes as former Fortinet channel manager Northern Region at Exclusive GRP, Cameron Durbin, enters the role of SMB channel manager at Check Point A/NZ, and follows hot on the heels of the appointment of former Symantec national partner manager, Craig McGregor to director of channel sales A/NZ.

For Sharma, the new role will give him the opportunity to invest in the company's new channel program and help distributors and partners alike navigate the changing technology landscape.

"There are two or three ingredients in what I aim to do to grow our business," Sharma told ARN. "I'll be investing in the new partner program, and the support the channel that way.

"I'm also here to support the distributors and their changes internally," he said. "I want to help support changes in the landscape and the buying patterns of our partners.

"The way we do business today is very different to the way we did business three years ago, and the distributors are changing with us," he added.

The company revamped its A/NZ channel program in 2014, and announced a hiring spree in early 2015, setting its sights on expanding its A/NZ footprint by 25 per cent to accompany a new channel approach, featuring its Stars Program, in the local market.

“The reason why we are doing this is to give them [partners] the opportunity to do more quicker, accelerate their growth and help them on their way,” said Check Point A/NZ regional marketing manager for A/NZ, Christopher Rodrigues, at the time.
