Security vendor, FireEye, has named Richard Metcalfe to lead operations in Australia and New Zealand following the promotion of Phil Vasic to a regional channel leadership role.

Richard Metcalfe has been promoted from sales manager to regional director for Australia and New Zealand.

Phil Vasic has been promoted to senior director for global service providers and alliances for Asia Pacific and Japan.

Metcalfe told ARN that a large part of his role will be building on the work Vasic had done during his three and a half year tender in charge of the local business.

“We will continue to invest in Australian resources, not just from a sales perspective, but from a pre sales perspective,” he said.

The new A/NZ boss went on to say that there would also be resources sunk into the Mandiant Consulting business and the company’s Security Operations Centre (SOC) in Sydney.

“We are investing in the entire region, not just in Sydney but in the other parts as well so that we are best placed to serve our customers and partners.”

Both Vasic and Metcalfe will continue to be based at the company’s A/NZ headquarters in Sydney.

MId-Market push

FireEye’s point of difference is its capability in dealing with advanced persistent threats (APTs) and this has lead the company to have strong appeal to enterprise and government, but Metcalfe explained that the company is now targeting partners who serve the mid-market.

“We have seen a shift in the market over the last six to twelve months to a realisation that these sophisticated attacks are ambivalent toward their target organisation and so this is a problem for everyone.

He said the company’s push to increase its channel to include mid-market focused partners was a result of this shift.

“The remit I am working with with all the team is that the channel is everyone’s responsibility and doesn’t just belong to a particular group of individuals.”

Metcalfe has a channel background having held previous roles at Dimension Data and Softcat. Prior to joining FireEye he was major accounts manager for finance and banking at F5 Networks.
