Reseller News launches Women in ICT Awards

WIICTA set to celebrate gender diversity and recognise female excellence in the New Zealand channel.

Reseller News is pleased to formally announce the launch of Women in ICT Awards (WIICTA), celebrating gender diversity and recognising female excellence in the New Zealand channel.

Timing the launch with International Women’s Day, the awards recognise the very best in the channel, celebrating the achievements of a talented crop of female front runners who have become influential figures in New Zealand’s ICT industry.

As leaders across New Zealand, and the world, pledge to take action as champions of gender parity, WIICTA aims to celebrate the innovation excellence and entrepreneurial spirit of Kiwi women in ICT.

Reflective of IDG’s continued dedication to the local market, WIITCA will be held at a lunch celebration at the Sofitel Hotel in Auckland on Friday, June 17, honouring individuals across four categories; Rising Star, Entrepreneur, Innovation and Technical.

Rising Star

The Rising Star award recognises the candidate with a commitment to continuous career advancement and a proven desire to reach the next level of professional development.

The candidate - who has been working in the ICT industry for under 10 years - is growing quickly in importance in the ICT field, demonstrating outstanding business acumen and professional integrity.

The Entrepreneur award recognises the candidate who has achieved outstanding results in the ICT industry; an enterprising individual who has achieved success through risk-taking and initiative, often shattering the status quo in business in order to set up new ventures, products or new services.

The Innovation award recognises the candidate who is a stand-out in delivering ‘big picture’ ideas and vision in the ICT industry, thereby responding to change and discovering unique and challenging business opportunities. The candidate will show a proven track record of finding new and better ways of doing business, continually pushing the envelope in the ICT industry.

The Technical award recognises the candidate who has excelled in the IT and engineering segment of the market, demonstrating a proven depth of knowledge and abilities. The candidate will demonstrate excellence in problem-solving and decision-making skills, and an exemplary level of accomplishment in job performance.

To be judged by an esteemed panel of 12 judges, criteria for each category, the nominations process and full details of the event will be released next week on Reseller News.

Please note, this is not a women only event - Reseller News actively encourages the men of our industry to celebrate diversity and the achievements of their female colleagues.

Sizing up the NZ security spectrum - Where's the channel sweet spot?

From new extortion schemes, outside threats and rising cyber attacks, the art of securing the enterprise has seldom been so complex or challenging. With distance no longer a viable defence, Kiwi businesses are fighting to stay ahead of the security curve. In total, 28 per cent of local businesses faced a cyber attack last year, with the number in New Zealand set to rise in 2017. Yet amidst the sensationalism, media headlines and ongoing high profile breaches, confusion floods the channel, as partners seek strategic methods to combat rising sophistication from attackers. In sizing up the security spectrum, this Reseller News roundtable - in association with F5 Networks, Kaspersky Lab, Tech Data, Sophos and SonicWall - assessed where the channel sweet spot is within the New Zealand channel.
