Ingram Micro set to showcase new data erasure specialist to NZ resellers

Resellers to get access to the same tools as used by banks, financial institutions and government agencies.

Ingram Micro has brought on board specialist data erasure vendor Blancco, a move the distributor believes will offer New Zealand resellers “exciting new opportunities” to expand the services they offer to their customers.

Gary Bigwood, Managing Director, Ingram Micro New Zealand, says the company recently signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Blancco, and is “very upbeat” about the opportunities that Blancco offers resellers.

“Blancco provides resellers with great new opportunities to supply certified data erasure products and services to their customers,” he says.

“This in turn lets their customers securely re-deploy or dispose of assets, knowing that there is no possibility of subsequent data breaches.”

Karl Gaines, managing director of Blancco Australasia, says resellers will have access to the same products and services that are already in use worldwide by banks and other financial institutions, along with a wide range of government agencies where secure data destruction is critically important.

“Blancco products are independently certified and are ‘Common Criteria Approved’,” Gaines adds. “That means customers can confidently use Blancco products to securely erase data from PCs, servers, storage area networks and mobile devices.

“The equipment can then be either re-deployed or disposed of, without any risk of confidential data being exposed.

“In the past, the only real way to achieve this level of secure data erasure was physical destruction, which obviously isn’t an option if you want to re-use those assets elsewhere in an organisation.”

According to Gaines, Blancco will appeal to resellers that offer managed services, provide de-commissioning solutions, or work in ‘information-sensitive sectors’, as well as data centres and retail providers.

“What we are seeing in Asia and Europe is that where the data erasure service is offered as an optional attachment to replacement equipment, resellers enjoy a greater than 70 percent uptake,” Gaines adds.

“There is no reason to think it would be any less in New Zealand.”

In addition, says Gaines, increasing privacy and data erasure legislation in Europe, often accompanied by punitive fines for non-compliance, is driving much greater awareness of the need to properly manage the data life cycle and ensure data is correctly destroyed.

Bigwood says the full range of Blancco products and services will be on display at the Ingram Micro Showcase events in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch this month - starting in Auckland on August 18.

“This is an ideal opportunity for resellers to see Blancco close-up and understand what it can do for their customers,” he adds.

“In addition, Blancco will be presenting in the Showcase Seminar Series, which is perfect timing for resellers to hear first-hand the opportunity that Blancco brings to their business in the critical security segment.”
