NZ in the mix as Brocade delivers “alway-on IT infrastructure”

“The success of our business relies on automation, standardisation, and centralisation of core processes."

Skilled Group, Australia’s largest provider of workforce solutions, has created an always-on IT infrastructure by deploying a network design using Brocade Ethernet and Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (SAN) fabrics.

Terms of the deal will see Skilled Group use Ethernet fabrics based on Brocade VDX switches and VCS Fabric technology to connect its primary data centre to a secondary site 30km away.

Skilled Group provides both onshore and offshore workforce management and project-based workforce solutions with a branch network including more than 80 local and regional offices across Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Malta, and the United Arab Emirates.

In all, it employs approximately 50,000 full- and part-time staff in a broad range of fields.

“The success of our business relies on automation, standardisation, and centralisation of core processes, which requires an agile, zero-downtime IT environment to enable all applications to be always available,” says Pavel Rogik, Senior Technical Analyst, Skilled Group.

“To achieve this, we have deployed Brocade Ethernet and SAN fabrics to link our data centres so that they behave as a single entity.”

Rogik says Skilled Group was able to deploy the Brocade VDX switches across both data centres in just under four hours, instead of the two weeks estimated if it had used competitive solutions.

“Skilled Group is a textbook example of the synergies that can be realised between Brocade fabrics and EMC storage for maintaining maximum application performance and availability,” adds Andy Miller, Country Manager New Zealand, Brocade.

“These innovative deployments demonstrate the power and value of fabrics in delivering automation and simplicity to support highly virtualised environments.”

Sizing up the NZ security spectrum - Where's the channel sweet spot?

From new extortion schemes, outside threats and rising cyber attacks, the art of securing the enterprise has seldom been so complex or challenging. With distance no longer a viable defence, Kiwi businesses are fighting to stay ahead of the security curve. In total, 28 per cent of local businesses faced a cyber attack last year, with the number in New Zealand set to rise in 2017. Yet amidst the sensationalism, media headlines and ongoing high profile breaches, confusion floods the channel, as partners seek strategic methods to combat rising sophistication from attackers. In sizing up the security spectrum, this Reseller News roundtable - in association with F5 Networks, Kaspersky Lab, Tech Data, Sophos and SonicWall - assessed where the channel sweet spot is within the New Zealand channel.
