Addressing a jam-packed Kiwi audience, of resellers and end-users, Dave Rosenberg kicked off Westcon Group Imagine 2014 NZ this morning with one overriding message.

“New Zealand is the innovation hub of our global cloud business,” said the Managing Director ANZ, Westcon Group.

Taking the stage in New Zealand for the first time since his move across the Tasman, to head up the company’s regional operations, the former Kiwi head of Westcon looked at home, glad to be back among colleagues and friends.

“In New Zealand, we’re seen as a global leader in cloud and innovation,” he added. “Four years ago the company embarked on a global cloud strategy, today, New Zealand is the first country to run this Cloud Distribution model, with Australia and the US to follow soon.”

With Westcon’s global company revenue growing from US$3bn to $5bn, a growth of 40%, Rosenberg says the Asia-Pacific region contributes $600m to the company books, with New Zealand accounting for 23%, and the ANZ region 70%.

Posting revenue of NZ$165m in New Zealand this year, with offices in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, Rosenberg spoke of the 112+ workforce across the country, a workforce which he says continues to realise the company’s future ambitions on a global scale.

“Our cloud strategy is simple,” he added. “Firstly we are not providing cloud services, rather selling infrastructure to those who want to use and sell the cloud.

“We provide a digital distribution of cloud services, providing opportunities for the end customer to buy cloud services from one portal, managed by our cloud reseller partners.”

Echoing comments from global CEO Dolph Westerbos, who visited New Zealand in July, Rosenberg spoke of the company’s Kiwi pilot of its own cloud managed services and syndication platform among reseller partners.

The platform, which went live in early September, is intended to make cloud provisioning and billing easier for vendor and reseller partners, while giving customers the ability customers to purchase SaaS and IaaS offerings through a network of select resellers.

In being the first market globally to be targeted with the platform, Rosenberg labelled New Zealand as leaders in cloud adoption, in a market which is ready to embrace the shift to the cloud.
