Samsung Australia launches health and medical equipment division

Technology vendor utilises local developers for its healthcare solution.

Samsung has launched a dedicated health and medical equipment division in Australia.

The technology giant has been involved in technology and health since 1985, though A/NZ and Southeast Asia SMB VP, Craig Gledhill, said acquisitions made in 2010 allowed a dedicated division to be established.

“We’ve been putting effort behind our technologies such as mobility and digital signage, and now we’ve turned out attention to medical equipment in healthcare,” he said.

Gledhill adds that Samsung has identified healthcare as a key vertical globally that needs to be paid attention to, invested in and expanded, and the Australian region is key to that.

From a mobility perspective, Samsung is working with several local partners in expanding the capability of its products, such as Perth-based Silver Chain.

Gledhill said the developer is providing Samsung a mobile application environment that runs on mobile devices in the health sector.

The push towards digital

The first product to come out the new Samsung division in Australia is RS80A, a premium ultrasound system designed for radiology.

A black-and-white photo is the common way to capture an ultrasound, though the RS80A digitises the process with the help of a mobile application.

The app connects to the ultrasound system and allows for a video clip to be downloaded to a mobile phone, and updated scans can be provided every time a check-up takes place.

“Part of our big play in this is linking our technologies and innovations, whether it is mobile or ultrasound equipment, to have an impact on better patient care and outcomes,” Gledhill said.

Sizing up the NZ security spectrum - Where's the channel sweet spot?

From new extortion schemes, outside threats and rising cyber attacks, the art of securing the enterprise has seldom been so complex or challenging. With distance no longer a viable defence, Kiwi businesses are fighting to stay ahead of the security curve. In total, 28 per cent of local businesses faced a cyber attack last year, with the number in New Zealand set to rise in 2017. Yet amidst the sensationalism, media headlines and ongoing high profile breaches, confusion floods the channel, as partners seek strategic methods to combat rising sophistication from attackers. In sizing up the security spectrum, this Reseller News roundtable - in association with F5 Networks, Kaspersky Lab, Tech Data, Sophos and SonicWall - assessed where the channel sweet spot is within the New Zealand channel.
