Cloud management has matured from a scale standpoint: TIBCO

Software-as-a-Service vendor sees a need for various types of Cloud in a growing market

Private, public, and hybrid Cloud management has matured significantly from what it used to be, according to TIBCO Software.

Regional CTO, Paul Scott-Murphy, said the key differences today are ones of scale.

“Increasingly, hybrid Cloud management platforms allow organisations to use both, and optimise their resources for cost, scale and service level agreement requirements more easily,” he said.

While the private Cloud is a viable option for many, Scott-Murphy said public Cloud infrastructure stands out for its benefits of scale, agility, automation and self-service without capital investment.

“If your business can increase competitiveness with those benefits, then you can't afford to ignore them,” he said.

Building know-how

The flexibility and cost of public Cloud has made it a popular choice for a growing amount of Australian businesses, though Scott-Murphy said it comes with a learning curve.

Data sovereignty, control and the “audit-ability” of access are some pitfalls that he identifies as unique to public Cloud.

“Platforms that combine the security features of private infrastructure with the benefits of public Cloud can help address the challenges,” he said.

As for what resellers and partners can do to capitalise on the Cloud trend locally, Scott-Murphy recommends skilling up to meet the demands of organisations looking to migrate.

“Establish knowledge, processes and practices that take advantage of Cloud management and provisioning platforms,” he said.

In total, 28 per cent of local businesses faced a cyber attack last year, with the number in New Zealand set to rise in 2017. Yet amidst the sensationalism, media headlines and ongoing high profile breaches, confusion floods the channel, as partners seek strategic methods to combat rising sophistication from attackers. In sizing up the security spectrum, this Reseller News roundtable - in association with F5 Networks, Kaspersky Lab, Tech Data, Sophos and SonicWall - assessed where the channel sweet spot is within the New Zealand channel.
