Australian company to create hundreds of NZ jobs in Chorus UFB deal

UCG appointed to connect multi-dwelling units in Auckland and Wellington

Chorus has contracted Australian design and construction provider, Universal Communications Group (UCG), to connect Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) for multi-dwelling units (MDU) in Auckland and Wellington.

The non-exclusive, 10-year deal will see UCG, which has experience in high-volume telecommunications deployments, work on projects spanning terraced houses, low to high rise apartment blocks, and offices in the two cities from July 1.

Chorus claims there are 37,000 MDUs in the cities, representing about 130,000 end users.

UCG will hire up to 150 local staff over the next three years and between 200 and 300 subcontractors for the job, subject to demand.

The appointment marks the end of Chorus’ existing interim service agreements with services companies which have been delivering MDU work since the start of this year.

Chorus infrastructure general manager, Ed Beattie, claims the move will allow those companies to focus on resources on the increasing workloads on the rest of the UFB connection work.

“Wiring multi-dwelling units requires specialist skills and expertise that don’t necessarily go hand in hand with general provisioning and build services,” Beattie said.

“We’re bringing in the experts because it’s imperative that we have the best people on the job in order to get the best outcomes for our customers.”

Malwarebytes shoots the breeze with channel, prospects

A Kumeu, Auckland, winery was the venue for a Malwarebytes event for partner and prospect MSPs - with some straight shooting on the side. The half-day getaway, which featured an archery competition, lunch and wine-tasting aimed at bringing Malwarebytes' local New Zealand and top and prospective MSP partners together to celebrate recent local successes, and discuss the current state of malware in New Zealand. This was also a unique opportunity for local MSPs to learn about how they can get the most out of Malwarebytes' MSP program and offering, as more Kiwi businesses are targeted by malware.
