PowerbyProxi to demo solutions at Computex 2014

The Auckland firm will have a range of its wireless charging systems on display, including a 7.5W system for thin-form devices and a bowl transmitter with 3D charging technology.

PowerbyProxi, developer of wireless power solutions, will be demonstrating its solutions at Computex 2014 in Taiwan this week, as it looks to engage with OEMs, ODMs and investors.

“This is one of a handful of key shows for us each year and its mid year timing is a great opportunity to showcase technology as key customers look to make design decisions on what innovations they should be considering for future products” said Greg Cross, CEO of PowerbyProxi.

On display from the firm will be a 7.5W charging solution for thin-form devices, such as smartphones and phablets. The solution is also expandable to power tablets up to 15W.

According to the company, the system is designed to deliver up to 15W of power to a single tablet, or multiple smartphones and phablets. Ultimately this will be backwards compatible with the Wireless Power Consortium’s (WPC) Qi standard and forward compatible to resonant v1.2.

The company will also demo a wireless charging pad for mobile devices that enables vertical height charging of up to 30mm. The firm claims that this functioning height distance will enable charging capabilities to be integrated into public locations like restaurants and hotels, as well as furniture and countertops.

PowerbyProxi’s new bowl transmitter with 3D charging technology, designed for charging smaller devices including wearables and devices using AA batteries, will also be display at the show. The bowl, which measures 100mm in diameter, is meant to complement the larger, family charging box, which accommodates multiple larger devices.

“We continue to drive advances in wireless charging technology,” said Cross. “Our contributions to the future specification of the Qi 1.2 standard, will enable better performance and more convenient solutions for consumers.”

PowerbyProxi is a venture-backed company spun out of the University of Auckland and holds more than 200 patents to its name.
