Telstra partners New Zealand firm Mako Networks

Telstra will bundle Mako's network appliances into a broadband connection package for business customers

New Zealand-based Mako Networks has partnered Telstra in a bid to expand its reach and its route to market in Australia.

Mako Networks has announced a new partnership with Telstra to incorporate its PCI DSS-compliant network management service in Australia as part of a new offering to connect and secure Telstra business broadband customers.

Under the terms of a new agreement, Telstra will bundle Mako's network appliances and service into a broadband connection package for business customers.

The bundle will provide a complete package for businesses, including secure internet access, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliance, content filtering, wireless failover and more.

Telstra chief procurement officer, Richard Allen, said the company took privacy and data security very seriously.

"We are always looking at ways to improve our security systems and we continue to invest in new security capabilities.

Mako chief executive, Bill Farmer, said he was pleased to offer Telstra customers the service as part of an expanded broadband offering that will connect and secure their operations.

"The security landscape in Australia is quickly shifting," he said.

"As the legitimate economy continues to do well, so too the criminal economy seeks to make its own payday in attacking businesses and consumers.

"Our agreement with Telstra will enable Australian organizations to deploy world-class security to protect their businesses and customers from modern cyber threats.

For Mako this is an opportunity to further our global reach with a significant partner that has demonstrated capabilities in the Australian and global markets."

Mako network appliances deployed through Telstra will feature an optional wireless failover service, where in the event of a fixed-line network outage the network will automatically re-route and connect to the internet using a high-speed wireless signal to keep payment traffic flowing.

This non-stop networking service will be included as part of a customer's monthly fees.

The contract also opens avenues to deploy Mako's solution with the wider global network of Telstra operations by participating in joint bids and international customer opportunities.
