Sony grapples with PS4 bug that corrupts game saves

An application crash has sparked hundreds of complaints as Sony works on a fix

Sony is still working to fix an error in its PlayStation 4 console that corrupts game saves, it said Wednesday.

Since early December 2013, weeks after the console's launch, players have been reporting the error message "ce-34878-0" after some attempts to save files failed.

About 400 messages on the PlayStation Forum have discussed the problem, including complaints about losing tens of hours of gameplay.

Some users have also said that a forum coordinator's suggestion to install the latest PS4 system software and game patches, also recommended on a PS4 error codes support page, has not solved the issue.

Others have said it does, while some players have recommended disconnecting the PS4 from the Internet to resolve it. Meanwhile, DIY fixes by users have also been posted on YouTube.

"With regards to the error code, we are aware of the cases and we appreciate your patience while we investigate," a spokesman at Sony Computer Entertainment in Tokyo said, adding he was unable to comment further.

According to players on the forum, games affected by the error have included Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, FIFA 14, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Madden NFL 25.

The error code in question is a warning that a PS4 application has crashed. Players are asked to back up their saved data and initialize their console if the bug persists.

Sony released the PS4 in November in North America, Europe, Australia and other regions. It had sold over 4.2 million units of the PlayStation 3 successor as of December 28, outgunning Microsoft's Xbox One, which sold over 3 million units.

The PS4 is slated for launch in Japan on February 22.

Malwarebytes shoots the breeze with channel, prospects

A Kumeu, Auckland, winery was the venue for a Malwarebytes event for partner and prospect MSPs - with some straight shooting on the side. The half-day getaway, which featured an archery competition, lunch and wine-tasting aimed at bringing Malwarebytes' local New Zealand and top and prospective MSP partners together to celebrate recent local successes, and discuss the current state of malware in New Zealand. This was also a unique opportunity for local MSPs to learn about how they can get the most out of Malwarebytes' MSP program and offering, as more Kiwi businesses are targeted by malware.
