CommVault hires new A/NZ channel director

Information management software vendor appoints new head of channel

CommVault has appointed Justin Cooper as its new A/NZ channel director.

Cooper comes into the role after a decade at storage vendor, EMC, where he more recently headed up global alliances for the APJ region.

Cooper said he made the transition to CommVault following a desire to move into the software field.

“The infrastructure game is becoming more commoditised and competitive over time,” he said.

“Where the most value is to be had and gained is in the software space, on an application and middleware level.”

The first order of business for Cooper is to review CommVault’s local partner eco-system and model.

“That is a combination of aligning the partner eco-system go-to-market strategy with that of the sales side of the organisation so the two work closely together,” Cooper said.

The aim is to enable the software vendor to “build a vehicle” that will take it on the growth strategy that it has outlined for the future.

Ability to grow

As for his goal for the channel, Cooper wants to ensure that the eco-system has the ability to scale and grow as the organisation does.

“We need to develop the framework for engaging the partner eco-system,” he said.

Cooper clarifies that this does not mean that the vendor will be “radically changing anything,” including reducing or increasing the size of the partner network.

“It is about building closing relationships with key strategic partners that are like minded and will reciprocate the growth and investment strategy that we have,” he said.

Sizing up the NZ security spectrum - Where's the channel sweet spot?

From new extortion schemes, outside threats and rising cyber attacks, the art of securing the enterprise has seldom been so complex or challenging. With distance no longer a viable defence, Kiwi businesses are fighting to stay ahead of the security curve. In total, 28 per cent of local businesses faced a cyber attack last year, with the number in New Zealand set to rise in 2017. Yet amidst the sensationalism, media headlines and ongoing high profile breaches, confusion floods the channel, as partners seek strategic methods to combat rising sophistication from attackers. In sizing up the security spectrum, this Reseller News roundtable - in association with F5 Networks, Kaspersky Lab, Tech Data, Sophos and SonicWall - assessed where the channel sweet spot is within the New Zealand channel.
