Hansen takes top job at Check Point

Kurt Hansen has become the new A/NZ regional director for the software security vendor.

Security software vendor, Check Point Software has hired Kurt Hansen as its new regional managing director covering A/NZ.

He takes on the role vacated by Scott McKinnel in September, who left after 11 years at the company. He is now working for enterprise software company, Ventyx.

Hansen’s responsibilities involve overall business operations, sales and business development.

“Check Point has grown considerably over the past decade and I’m confident that we’ll continue to strengthen our position in delivering security solutions to our customers,” Hansen said. “I’m looking forward to working with the team to further enhance our market share in Australia and New Zealand.”

Hansen maintains more than 20 years experience within the IT sector and was most recently the A/NZ managing director for F5 Networks. During his time there, he grew its A/NZ business five-fold since 2009 and transformed its sales program among its service providers across Asia Pacific. Hansen has also previously worked at AirData, Symbol Technologies, Telstra Wholesale, Cisco and Ericsson.

He commenced his career in IT as an army officer in the Royal Australian Signal Corps.

With distance no longer a viable defence, Kiwi businesses are fighting to stay ahead of the security curve. In total, 28 per cent of local businesses faced a cyber attack last year, with the number in New Zealand set to rise in 2017. Yet amidst the sensationalism, media headlines and ongoing high profile breaches, confusion floods the channel, as partners seek strategic methods to combat rising sophistication from attackers. In sizing up the security spectrum, this Reseller News roundtable - in association with F5 Networks, Kaspersky Lab, Tech Data, Sophos and SonicWall - assessed where the channel sweet spot is within the New Zealand channel.
