APJ partners are focusing on innovation, becoming MSPs: CA Technologies

Security vendor finds that resellers are increasingly evolving to the changes in the market

A recent study by CA Technologies has uncovered that Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ) partners spend 33 per cent of their time helping customers with projects related to innovation.

With conventional wisdom suggesting that 80 per cent of a company’s IT budget is spent on maintenance and operations, the CA Technologies Channel Index 2013 found the above number to be higher than the estimated figure of 20 per cent.

CA Technologies A/NZ partners senior director, Carl Terrantroy, said this growth is a sign of further innovation to come in APJ.

“We are seeing many exciting socio-economic developments in many Asian nations and IT is at the centre of this transformation,” he said.

“We are also seeing as a definitive mind-set shift with many CIOs and business leaders asking for IT to play a crucial role in driving innovation and transformation.”

64 per cent of partners surveyed admitted to becoming, or starting to become, full MSPs, while 31 per cent are currently considering the MSP business model.

“The MSP model enables them to build Cloud based service offerings that allow their customers to meet business needs with more flexible and cost-efficient IT,” Terrantroy said.

73 per cent of respondents said they are offering services to customers beyond the basic IT, indicating that the partner community is increasingly recognising the importance of providing innovative services.

Responding to trends

Another key result uncovered by the research was that 87 per cent of APJ partners expect an increase in spending on enterprise mobility over the next year.

The rapid adoption of mobility was highlighted by 95 per cent of respondants as creating opportunities to help grow their business.

“The arrival and adoption of disruptive technologies presents great opportunities for partners and the survey indicates they are responding quickly to market changes,” Terrantroy said.

When it comes to Big Data and Cloud spending, 79 and 74 per cent of partners respectively expect it to increase over the next twelve months.
