Neich to lead Nutanix A/NZ with focus on channel engagement

Appointed managing director with goal of channel investment via local business partners

Datacentre infrastructure appliance vendor, Nutanix, has hired Wayne Neich to lead its Australian and New Zealand (A/NZ) operations as managing director.

Neich, whose career includes more than 25 years of sales and business management experience, will be responsible for all aspects of sales and support across the region in order to develop the Nutanix brand and product footprint.

He told ARN his primary goal is to invest further into Nutanix’s channel, and intends to do so by reaching out to resellers via local events. This includes a presence at VMware vForum 2013 (to be held in October), Gartner’s IT Expo at the Gold Coast, and a range of Citrix events.

In commenting on his appointment, Neich said he took the job at Nutanix as it defines disruptive technology. He claims the product revolutionises the deployment of servers, storage and virtualisation, and “is arguably the most profound IT infrastructure solution since the advent of the hypervisor.”

“People are talking about so-called storage wars, but those on the datacentre front lines know the only thing that really matters now is how storage and compute must converge into an almost infinitely scalable package,” Neich said. “Frankly, anyone who isn’t doing convergence is selling something that’s already obsolete.”

Neich joins Nutanix from Silver Peak Systems A/NZ, and is credited with developing the SDN company’s local business. He has also worked for Blue Coat Systems A/NZ.

Nutanix launched its local presence in June with the opening of a new office in Sydney from which it runs all operations.

It simultaneously announced Melbourne as the location for its Asia-Pacific (APAC) support centre, which has now been opened. The centre will provide technical support for customers, partners, and resellers throughout the region.

The San Jose-headquartered vendor sells a 2U device with four servers, 20TB of storage, 64 cores of CPUs, 1TB of memory, and 2TB of flash, with no single point of failure; a ‘datacentre in a box’. Its Australian customers include the Australian Rugby Union, Pearson Research and Assessment, Sanity Music, and the Taranaki District and Southland Regional councils.

In August, Nutanix signed a partnership with WhiteGold Solutions, giving the latter exclusive distribution rights of the vendor’s full portfolio in A/NZ. Neich said the companies’ relationship is still in its initial stages, with the ongoing groundwork in progress as operational efficiency nears.
