Personal Information Management Ltd to launch cloud version of myinfoSAFE

Wellington company PIM will launch this week its cloud version of myinfoSAFE as a personal cloud service.

The digital vault application has customers in more than 20 countries but the new version will initially be available only to advisers and clients of SHARE New Zealand, a group of more than 70 financial advisers with more than 20,000 clients.

PIM stands for personal information management. The company was formed five years ago by former Inland Revenue CIO Ross Hughson, who says he has seen the emergence of the personal cloud as a technology that has the potential to change the way individuals and corporates manage the exchange of personal information.

“We are seeing the evolution of large corporate cloud-based solutions down to personal cloud solutions that offer individuals huge amounts of computing power that, when exploited fully, will see corporate systems able to interact with personal clouds as peer systems,” he says. “Eventually, this will see the decline of the importance of the corporate-based client portal.”

Major digital services such as Google and Facebook collect personal information, analyse it and sell the information to product companies. Hughson says PIM is looking to turn that model on its head and ensure the individual and companies they choose to interact with will get the value from effective management and utilisation of personal information management.

“Personal clouds become the platform for the individual to store small data or data about the individual alone,” he says. “Quality small data when shared can be very valuable to organisations which want to more about their clients or potential clients.

PIM is hosted by Microsoft Azure. Hughson says security is the key to the system and service. “ We have invested in security reviews and assessments and last week we received a clean vulnerability assessment report from Symantec. They have rated our service as ‘very secure’.”

SHARE chief executive Scott Black says myinfoSAFE is a value-added service for SHARE clients. “It provides them with a secure place to store their digital information online and enable them to access it from any browser in the world.

"The system also offers advisors a secure way of getting up-to-date information about their clients as their situations change, enabling secure two-way exchange of documents and a platform on which to add other services going forward.”
