Unified communications and collaboration vendor, Polycom, has updated its RealPresence Resource Manager software to version eight, promising more effective management of bring-your-own-device (BYOD) by increasing the limit of supported users.
The upgrade gives large enterprise customers and service providers the ability to support up to 50,000 video user registrants joining from smartphones, tablets and desktop desktop clients, and up to 10,000 group video collaboration systems, including Polycom's HDX series and Group series systems.
Accompanying the v8 release are updates to RealPresence Distributed Media Application (DMA v6), designed to provide enhanced video operator services with help-desk features.
Polycom said the benefit for service providers is the enhanced scale of the solution for mobile and desktop service offers, in addition to the improved end-user experience for customers. The products also provide further depth to data stored for reporting and billing purposes.
"For large enterprises and service providers, the enhanced Resource Manager can help IT support BYOD since it's optimised for the secure, highly scalable video collaboration that is being fueled by the proliferation of mobile and desktop video users," Polycom worldwide engineering executive vice-president, AE Natarajan, said.
Polycom has also launched its RealPresence Video DualManager 400 solution, which is a new platform available on an industry-standard server, providing resource management, broad call-control support and interoperability for mid-sized enterprise video networks.
DualManager 400 includes Resource Manager and DMA v6 software to enable IT administrators to manage video resources and distribute video calls across networks.
"DualManager 400 includes full versions of two important Polycom infrastructure solutions... packaged within a single appliance," Natarajan said. "This release makes it faster and easier for organisations to add proactive monitoring and advanced device management to their video conferencing environments."
The solution promises: dyanmic monitoring, provisioning and reporting for mid-sized organisations; employee empowerment to control their own video meetings; SIP-based SVC call management; maximised investment protection.
Both the updates products (Resource Manager v8 and DMA v6) and the new appliance are available worldwide as of August. Customers can implement the latter on a single Dell PowerEdge R620 server. DualManager 400 product licenses transfer free of charge and self-service migration tools are available for $US500.
