NZ security players form Security Technology Alliance

Aims to provide alternative security solutions and generate global market reach for NZ technologies

NZ-based technology companies Gallagher, Tait Communications, Wynyard Group and Endace, have partnered to create the Security Technology Alliance (STA), a research and development initiative with the goal of increasing NZ’s security and help create a value-driven economy.

According to a statement, the companies will translate their successful track record and traction in global markets to deliver different advanced solutions for managing criminal intelligence, cyber security, mission critical communications, and physical security.

“The STA is a focused and well-supported initiative aimed at expanding NZ’s security industry, capability and export earnings,” STA spokesperson, Craig Richardson, said.

“It’s these types of initiatives, in a high-tech category that has the potential for significantly increasing expert earnings, which will lift NZ’s profile as a country that is known for its technology and not just its cows and campervans.”

The STA recently opened an office in Washington DC, appointing former Department of Homeland Security assistance secretary for the Office for State and Local Law Enforcement, Louis Quijas, as strategic ventures vice-president.

According to Quijas, STA represents a critical conduit for global markets to access NZ security technology, therefore allowing more NZ-based companies create opportunities.

“NZ has an important role to play globally in disrupting trans-national crime and corruption and the STA provides a platform for global markets to leverage alternative technology options as well as empowering NZ to increase its share of export revenues from this growing sector,” he said.

STA said it is has been well supported by the NZ Government, alongside NZ Trade and Enterprise and the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment.

The initiative has four recognised foundation members, although its collaboration agreement enables other export-focused NZ security technology companies to join the alliance.
