Apple's new iOS 7 beta 5 includes design tweaks, extra features and more

Apple has seeded the fifth version of iOS 7 to developers this week, bringing icons, bug fixes and more to the new mobile operating system

Apple has released the fifth beta version of iOS 7 to developers, bringing bug fixes and improvements including design tweaks and Control Center features to the upcoming operating system for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

iOS 7 beta 5, which was seeded to developers for testing on Tuesday, arrives little more than a week after iOS 7 beta 4, as build 11A4449a.

Among the design tweaks are new colourful icons for features in the native Settings app in iOS 7, which were previously simple blue icons. The power off slider has also been altered, and the Twitter icon has been inversed to become a blue bird on a white background.

Additionally, the icons in the menu that appears while the user is currently in a call now have circles surrounding them.

As for other feature improvements, Apple has added the ability to turn off the Control Center while the user is within an app, presumably to prevent the Control Center from accidentally being accessed in the middle of a game or other app.

Banner notifications can now be pulled down to bring up more information, and there are now new On/Off toggles in the Accessibility menu.

Interestingly, it appears that Apple has changed the boot screen that appears when installing iOS 7 to make it match the colour of the device being used. However, it seems that this feature only works on the iPhone 5 at present.

Messages has had a little tweak too, now showing only the first name of a contact in a conversation by default, rather than the first name and last initial that was shown in iOS 7 beta 4.

In addition to iOS 7 beta 5, Apple on Tuesday released Apple TV beta 4 and Xcode 5.
