Trend Micro NZ adds to team

DAMIAN Thompson is no longer the sole occupier of Trend Micro’s office in downtown Auckland.

Nine months after being sent across the Tasman to be the security vendor’s “man on the ground” in New Zealand, Thompson has added two members to his team.

Derek Holt has been appointed as national enterprise account manager and Steve Rielly as security consultant

And while both recruits will be heavily involved in generating sales opportunities, Rielly will also provide technical support.

“We needed to have sales and marketing on one side and technical skills on the other,” says Thompson.

Both men bring over a decade of experience in their fields to the job — Holt in sales and business development and Rielly in infrastructure and external security.

Holt joins the vendor from Software Spectrum and Rielly from Extranet Technologies.

According to Thompson the addition of the pair will further support the company’s channel partners and customers, with Holt working closely with partners.

He adds that Trend Micro remains committed to its channel but many high-end customers expect vendors to be involved in the sales process, while having a strong local presence boosts such business.

“We needed a bigger team to engage with end users and generate opportunities for our partners. Customers like to have someone they can talk to directly or to have a New Zealand number to call.” Thompson does not expect to grow the team any further just yet, but will look at the viability of appointing a channel manager towards the end of this year.
