Computerland, KVS team up

COMPUTERLAND has been taken on as a reseller by email management vendor KVS.

This adds to Gen-i, which the vendor also partners in Australia, and worldwide partner Hewlett-Packard.

KVS’s Sydney-based regional director Bjorn Engelhardt says Computerland’s appointment is not contrary to the vendor’s plans of taking on local partners that are outside the group of large integrators.

Computerland is already a reseller of Aftermail, a New Zealand email management product. But Engelhardt says this does not concern him.

Aftermail salesperson and former Computerland sales boss Lawrence Russell says companies selling competing products is good for the sector.

“We don’t expect to have exclusive products with anyone. Competition is fine. All the people that play in our space are educating the market about email compliance, searching and archiving.”

Awareness of such products has increased in the last 18 months or so with the introduction of the Electronic Transactions Act 2002, which gives the same legal status to electronic records as some paper documents that were required by statute.

HP, Microsoft security portfolio to hit NZ shores

HEWLETT-Packard is to introduce a server that will act as a firewall, VPN and cache appliance running Microsoft security software.

The hardware vendor has announced that it will launch a ProLiant DL320 server powered by Microsoft’s Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 suite. This is designed to protect applications against new and emerging threats, while delivering the flexibility of VPN, cache and firewall capabilities.

The venture was announced in a joint statement by the companies at the US round of Microsoft’s TechEd 2004 conference, which will be in New Zealand in August.

However, the device will only be released in August or September this year as ISA Server 2004 is still in the final production stage, and according to Lucas Searle, Microsoft New Zealand Windows Server System product manager, it will only be sold through the HP channel here.

“We share many channel partners, so there will be some duplication,” he adds.
